1st LSU Game

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, things have been hectic. I’ll have a full update on Sunday (rock band tournament, first time across the MS river, golfing etc).

But I’ll give you a teaser as to what I’ll me doing tomorrow night. Notice where I’m sitting. :)

Oh yeah and there is also this.

WTF?

Nothing more needs to be said.

EDIT: ok so i guess i need to explain this a little. This guy took and built a platform on the back of his bike and put half a cage on top. So his dog is able to stand on the platform with his back legs and his front legs will be on his shoulders.

My Kid

So I’ve decided I should put up a picture of my kid at my desk at work. I’ve taken a cell phone pic of it below.

Ok ok, so this isn’t my kid. We found this pic left in a book in our new offices. The kid looks so creepy that I had to put it on my desk.

New Apartment

Tonight is the first night in the new apartment. So far everything is going well. It’s starting to feel normal again after the storm, work is picking up, I have my new apartment. To make things even better the weather is going to be amazing this week, highs around 81 and lows around 60.

Debris

There is still a ton of debris lining the roads here in Baton Rouge, especially on Highland. Highland is a small 2 lane road thats right near the office, its heavily traveled and used to have a lot of trees. It took a bunch of damage from the storm, one of the few places where i saw a tree through a house or on top of a car.

So far this morning there has been a steady line of trucks outside our office filled with trees and branches. Were not talking F-150 trucks, were talking full length semis. The field next to our office is being used as the staging ground for all trees and such to be mulched up and set out. Its pretty crazy the amount of debris thats still being cleaned up 2 weeks after the storm hit.

Ive attached some pics, the last two are kind of hard to see but you can see the piles of trees in the background.

Food

Before I moved out here everyone told me that I will love the food, and everything is so good. So far I have to say they have been totally correct.

If your reading this then you probably know how pickey of an eater I am. Before I left I told myself that I’m going to try anything once.

The first thing I heard about were Boudin Balls (pronounced boo-dan). These are made up of ground sausage, rice and spices, then battered and fried like a hush puppy. I finally had an opprotunity to have Boudin tonight and they were mighty tasty. It’s interesting to see all the different types of good you’ll see on menues here. No matter what the restaurant type you can probably see boudin, etufee, gumbo, crawfish, and poboys on the menu in some form.

My coworkers seem to be fans of fried motzerella sticks. Normally these are thin sticks and not too exciting. Aparently they do things differently here in Baton Rouge. Every time we have ordered motzerella sticks they have been massive, as in inch and a half wide by 5-6 inch long sticks. There was one night where they were round balls like cheese puffs.

I think crawfish or gumbo is next on the list of things I want to try.

I had another accident with a razor

Ok so it’s not as bad as my incident with the drill bits. After not being able to shave for almost a week I went a little overboard with the razor. I usually shave the beard and moustache off a couple times a year. However as I was shaving I remembered that my dad had just shaved his beard too. So maybe I did it subcontiously to be like him.

Randomness

I want to create a new page for just random stuff I find, but I don’t think I can do that on the iPhone app. I’ll have to look into that when I get into work tomorrow.

Anyway here are two random pics I took today. This first one is from Joes Crab Shack where we had lunch today. It was right in front of me laminated onto the table, but somehow I missed it until we were almost done with lunch.

This next one is from the hotel I’m staying at. Aparently your choices are to go up or over to a parellel universe.

Back in Baton Rouge

This afternoon Erob and I came back to Baton Rouge from Natchez. Along the drive back we could start to see more and more damage. Just before we got into east baton rouge parish we passed through a small town that had been hit pretty hard. A lot of large trees down. Not broken but just pushed over roots and all, most more than 4-5 feet across.

Once we got into BR there were still lights out throughout the town. Our hotel had just gotten back on regular power. However the ac unit in my room would not turn on, which left a nice stank throughout the room. Needless to say the hotel did not have any other rooms open. So I’m currently sleeping on the pull out couch at my boss’ hotel room. Hopefully they will get my AC working tomorrow.

The news says that about 50% of BR still doesn’t have power. Power, AC, and cable are very hard to find in one place. My hotel has power and cable but no AC. Where I’m at now has power and AC but only 2 channels of TV.

Our apartments have no power no cable no ac and no stuff. However we did find out that the truck that has our stuff is on it’s way from a delivery in Texas and should be here tomorrow. I’m not sure when my apartment will be ready though since they still had to paint last week. With the storm I’m sure they didn’t get anything done.

We start work Monday and hopefully that will start to restore some normalcy. 2 weeks off of work, living in 3 different states, and the chaos of a hurricane will kinda throw off your routine.

Oh and there is another hurricane on it’s way. I’m voting on evacuating to Vegas this time. :D

Pics are from the window of my hotel. They are the chimneys of an apartment complex knocked over, crazy.

Mississippi River

This afternoon we were able to get some gas, so we were able to go out exploring. Erob’s little cousin took us out and showed us around Natchez MS. It’s very much a southern small town. After seeing a old plantation house, courthouse and a couple other historic places we got to the Mississippi river. It was very impressive, much bigger than any other river I’ve seen. I snapped a couple pics, hopefully they came out ok.
